The Atlanta Falcons are pleased to announce Perry Mitchell as the Atlanta Falcons Community Quarterback Award Winner for December for his volunteer work with Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta, Inc.
The Atlanta Falcons Community Quarterback Award honors volunteers in Georgia (ages 13 and over) who exemplify leadership and dedication to bettering their communities. Each month during the 2013 season, September through December, an Atlanta Falcons Community Quarterback of the Month winner will be selected. Each winner will receive a $1,000 grant from NFL Foundation to support the organization served. Additionally, on Monday, December 16, each of the Atlanta Falcons Community Quarterback Award winners will be recognized at the annual Atlanta Falcons Community Honors Dinner and the 2013 Community Quarterback Award Winner of the Year will be announced.

Perry Mitchell is a retired creative director and writer with a Bachelor’s degree from Duke University and a Master’s degree from the University of Iowa. Serving as a volunteer classroom instructor for over seven years, Mitchell has impacted the lives of over 300 adult learners. Most recently, Mitchell has taken on the important role as a one-on-one tutor working closely with a few select students to help them with a number of personal goals, including retaining employment, paying bills and passing Citizenship Exams. Along with teaching and tutoring, Mitchell also plays a large role in all fundraising activities and has put in a total of over 3,000 volunteer hours.
Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta, Inc. (LVA) was founded in 1986 by 19 volunteers committed to helping adult metro Atlantans who are eager to raise their literacy abilities. Based on the premise that well-trained and supported volunteers can be effective tutors, LVA is the only organization in metro Atlanta that provides one-on-one tutoring at no cost to students in their service area, which encompasses all of Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb and Gwinnett counties.
